What is Simply KeePass?

A lean app that lets you use passwords, one-time codes (2FA) and passkeys on Mac, Android, iPhone and iPad as simply as possible. Everything lives in one KeePass file on your own WebDAV server.

Where can I get the app?

Simply KeePass is in development and already runs daily on all three platforms, but it isn’t in the app stores yet. As soon as it is, you’ll find it here.

Are my passwords in a cloud?

Not in ours – there isn’t one. The vault is an encrypted file in the storage you choose: today on a WebDAV server (your own server, NAS, hosting provider), soon also in your Dropbox, OneDrive or Google Drive account. Anyone with access there sees only the encrypted file. On Android and iOS a copy also lives on the device, so everything works offline too.

Do I need my own server?

You need storage that speaks WebDAV: your own server, a NAS or a hosting provider with WebDAV. All that’s required is GET, PUT and HEAD with ETags – any common WebDAV server does that. Dropbox, OneDrive and Google Drive as storage are on the way.

Does my file from KeePass or KeePassXC work?

Yes, if it is in KDBX 4 format (the default in current versions). The app reads one-time codes from the fields of KeePassXC and KeePass 2.47+, and stores passkeys in KeePassXC’s format. So you can switch to using both in parallel, or back, at any time.

What happens if I make changes on two devices at the same time?

Nothing gets lost. The app notices that the file on the server has changed, fetches it, merges the changes entry by entry and uploads the result. If the same entry was changed, the newer change wins and the older one is in the history.

Does it work without internet?

On Android and iOS, yes: the app opens the encrypted copy on the device, and you can make changes too. They sync the next time the app reaches the server. The Mac currently needs a connection to the server.

Is my master password stored?

Only if you turn on biometrics – then in the device’s secure storage (Keychain or Keystore), protected by finger or face. Otherwise it lives in memory only and is gone after locking. A key file is never stored.

What data leaves my device?

The encrypted vault file goes to your server. For logos, website icons are loaded (falling back to DuckDuckGo). Only if you enter a DeepSeek key yourself, the name of entries without a URL is sent. No accounts, no statistics, no ads.

Can I use passkeys?

On Android from version 14, yes – create them and sign in, in browsers and apps. On iPhone and iPad from iOS 17 the extension is finished, but iOS only offers it once the app is signed through the Apple Developer Program. There are no passkeys on the Mac yet.

Does the app fill in passwords on the iPhone?

The AutoFill extension is built and tested in the simulator; on real devices it arrives with signing through the Apple Developer Program. Until then you copy with one tap and paste – the clipboard stays local and expires.

My tablet doesn’t have a good fingerprint sensor. Do I always have to type the master password there?

No. Pair the tablet once with Unlock by another device. After that it asks your phone, and a tap on Approve there unlocks the tablet.

Is there a Simply KeePass for Windows, Linux or Intel Macs?

Not at the moment. The desktop app is available for Macs with Apple silicon. You can open the vault file on other systems with KeePass or KeePassXC.

Which languages is the app available in?

German, English, French, Spanish and Italian. It follows the system language; you can change it at the bottom of the unlock screen.

Can I rename or delete groups?

Not yet. You create new groups right in an entry’s form; for renaming or deleting, use KeePass or KeePassXC for now.
